Most often it is self-limiting and rarely recurs.<\/p>\n<p>The most frequently affected areas (snout, head, and front legs) exhibit:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>alopecic (hairless) areas<\/li>\n<li>scabs<\/li>\n<li>erythema<\/li>\n<li>Reddening of the skin (hence the widespread habit of calling demodectica, Red mange)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 id=\"la-forma-localizzata-di-rogna-puo-pero-aggravarsi-e-diventare-generalizzata\"><span style=\"color: #03548c;\"><strong>However, the localized form of mange can worsen and become generalized<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Generalized forms are quite similar to localized but much more severe and extensive, with complications of pyoderma (inflammation of the skin) setting in due to the reduced defense status of the skin.<\/p>\n<p>In generalized forms, there are several districts involved, from 5 to 6 or more areas, with large lesions that may even be scattered over the entire body.<\/p>\n<p>Other manifestations may be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>intense itching<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>pain<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>lymph node enlargement<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>fever<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>anorexia<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Septicemia due to bacterial complications in severe cases<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 id=\"come-si-diagnostica-la-rogna-demodettica\"><span style=\"color: #03548c;\"><strong>How is demodectic mange diagnosed?<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Demodex mites live in the hair follicle and sebaceous glands of all dogs.<\/p>\n<p>So to unearth them, it is necessary to perform a deep scraping and subject the sample to a microscope and highlight their number.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"come-si-cura-la-rogna-demodettica\"><span style=\"color: #03548c;\"><strong>How is demodectic mange treated?<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Assessments of the patient&#8217;s general health status should be made first, especially in severe cases where symptoms show major complications.<\/p>\n<p>Treatment of both local and generalized mange consists of oral medication or in the form of ointment or shampoo.<\/p>\n<p>The drug to be used and the doses should be indicated by the Veterinarian, but in general, pesticides with acaricidal potential are used for a longer or shorter period.<\/p>\n<p>However, it is indicated to perform diagnostic checks every 2-4 weeks to check the course of the disease.<\/p>\n<p>Treatment should be continued for at least 8 to 12 weeks after the first negative skin scraping.<\/p>\n<p>If no recurrence has occurred for at least 12 months, the dog is considered cured.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"come-si-puo-prevenire-la-rogna-demodettica\"><span style=\"color: #03548c;\"><strong>Can demodectic mange be prevented?<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Since the mite responsible for demodectic mange normally lives on the animal, it is impossible to eradicate it.<\/p>\n<p>There is no way to prevent its presence.<\/p>\n<p>However, it is possible to prevent the disease by always checking that the dog lives in a clean environment, does not stress unnecessarily, eats well, and undergoes regular anti-parasite treatment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Have your dog regularly examined and do not hesitate to contact us at the onset of suspicious
