But one wonders if dogs really need the coats and other clothing.<\/h4>\n<p>Of coats and other clothing, in most cases, dogs do not need them.<\/p>\n<p>On the contrary, they are often just designated victims of this practice of dressing that is rarely really necessary and often even detrimental to their well-being.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"I-cani-soffrono-piu-il-caldo-che-il-freddo\">Dogs suffer more from heat than from cold<\/h4>\n<p>Four-legged animals are equipped with a &#8220;natural&#8221; outfit namely the <em>coat<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/clinicalaveterinaria.it\/en\/the-coat-is-the-dogs-most-valuable-ally-in-protecting-itself-from-the-heat-and-you-should-never-shear-it\/\">coat has thermal insulating function<\/a> and protects the dog from heat in summer and cold in winter.<\/p>\n<p>The dogs tend to suffer more from heat than cold however, in some cases, their resistance to harsh winter temperatures may be below the standard.<\/p>\n<p>A dog&#8217;s resistance to cold can vary according to breed, coat type, size and health condition.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"Razze-di-cani-che-soffrono-il-freddo-pelo-sottopelo-e-grasso-corporeo\">Dog breeds that suffer from cold weather: hair, undercoat and body fat<\/h4>\n<p>Small dogs with very short hair, which have little undercoat or even no undercoat, are <strong>the coldest<\/strong>: these include the <strong>Pinscher<\/strong>, <strong>Chihuahua<\/strong>, <strong>Poodle<\/strong> and <strong>Dachshund<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Also devoid of undercoat are the Dalmatian, Doberman and Great Dane, however large.<\/p>\n<p>Greyhounds, then, slender and skinny, lack the layer of fat necessary to keep them warm and need to stay properly covered and protected from cold, humidity and temperature changes at all times.<\/p>\n<p>And still puppies, elderly, sick and convalescent dogs (somewhat living in an apartment where warmth is provided by the heating system, the abrupt transition from the warm weather at home to the harsh weather outside could result in a temperature swing that is always good to avoid.<\/p>\n<p>The risk is to expose the dog to cold stroke, colds or muscle contractures.<\/p>\n<p>So, in these cases, it makes sense to dress the four-legged animal in a coat to avoid the dog&#8217;s<a href=\"https:\/\/clinicalaveterinaria.it\/en\/winter-cold-and-hypothermia-in-dogs-and-cats-when-feeling-a-cold-snap-is-not-just-a-figure-of-speech\/\">hypothermia<\/a> and its painful and annoying consequent.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"Riconoscere-i-sintomi-del-freddo-nel-cane\">Recognizing cold symptoms in dogs<\/h4>\n<p>If your dog on a walk takes on any of these attitudes, it is likely that it is suffering from the cold:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>stiffens<\/li>\n<li>begins to tremble<\/li>\n<li>appears restless<\/li>\n<li>moves slowly and listlessly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In such cases, with or without a coat, you should quickly lead him to a sheltered environment or return home as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n<h4
