}<\/style><ul class=\"porto-info-list  porto-info-list871dc31092ef276a2adcdadee17cda5b wpb_custom_6c26ffd09e41b3aede9d3b42cf7c0492\"><li class=\"porto-info-list-item hash-scroll wpb_custom_eade0171093a7591372ccf9372738e3d\"><div class=\"porto-info-list-item-desc\"><a class=\"hash-scroll\" href=\"#Le-cause-all-origine-del-mastocitoma\"><strong>1.<\/strong>The underlying causes of mastocytoma.<\/a><\/div><\/li><li class=\"porto-info-list-item  wpb_custom_eade0171093a7591372ccf9372738e3d\"><div class=\"porto-info-list-item-desc\"><a class=\"hash-scroll\" href=\"#La-diagnosi-l-esame-citologico\"><strong>2.<\/strong>The diagnosis: the cytological examination<\/a><\/div><\/li><li class=\"porto-info-list-item  wpb_custom_eade0171093a7591372ccf9372738e3d\"><div class=\"porto-info-list-item-desc\"><a class=\"hash-scroll\" href=\"#Una-volta-diagnosticato-il-mastocitoma-si-deve-eseguire-la-stadiazione\"><strong>3.<\/strong>Once mastocytoma is diagnosed, staging should be performed<\/a><\/div><\/li><li class=\"porto-info-list-item  wpb_custom_eade0171093a7591372ccf9372738e3d\"><div class=\"porto-info-list-item-desc\"><a class=\"hash-scroll\" href=\"#La-terapia-e-i-trattamenti-come-curare-un-cane-con-mastocitoma\"><strong>4.<\/strong>Therapy and treatments: how to treat a dog with mastocytoma<\/a><\/div><\/li><li class=\"porto-info-list-item  wpb_custom_eade0171093a7591372ccf9372738e3d\"><div class=\"porto-info-list-item-desc\"><a class=\"hash-scroll\" href=\"#La-prognosi\"><strong>5.<\/strong>Prognosis<\/a><\/div><\/li><\/ul>[\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;9\/12&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Mastocytoma in dogs is a very common tumor: it presents as a cutaneous or subcutaneous nodule and accounts for about 30% of all neoplasms.  <strong>How to recognize a cutaneous mastocytoma in the dog?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Mastocytoma is manifested by the appearance of a well-circumscribed, hard, raised, hairless, cutaneous or subcutaneous nodule that varies in size from about 0.5 to 2 to 3 cm and tends to grow more or less rapidly.<\/p>\n<p>If the nodule is ulcerated, it causes the dog irritation to the point of scratching to the point of injury.<\/p>\n<p>The prevalent location is in the trunk, perineal area, on limbs, head and neck of the dog.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"Le-cause-all-origine-del-mastocitoma\">The underlying causes of mastocytoma<\/h4>\n<p>Mastocytoma is caused by hyper proliferation of <em>mast cells<\/em> (MCs), naturally occurring immune system cells deputed to activate defensive responses against microorganisms and other foreign molecules.<\/p>\n<p>The causes associated with the development of mastocytoma remain difficult to assess, and it is leaning toward a multifactorial approach where genetic predisposition assumes a major role.<\/p>\n<p>The most accepted theory is a <strong>gene mutation in mast cells, particularly the C-Kit gene<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Mutated mast cells lose their normal functions and degenerate into neoplastic cells.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In fact, mastocytoma in dogs can affect any breed and more or less young subjects.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"La-diagnosi-l-esame-citologico\">Diagnosis: the cytological examination<\/h4>\n<p>The veterinarian will perform chest X-rays, abdominal ultrasound, and cytological examination of spleen, liver, and relevant lymph nodes through needle aspiration.<\/p>\n<p>By looking at the cells of the sampled material under the microscope, the Veterinarian will be able to determine whether it is mastocytoma or <a href=\"https:\/\/clinicalaveterinaria.it\/it\/papillomi-cutanei-cane-verruche-escrescenze-pelle-cane\/\">something else such as a papilloma,<\/a> for example.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"Una-volta-diagnosticato-il-mastocitoma-si-deve-eseguire-la-stadiazione\">Once mastocytoma is diagnosed, staging should be performed<\/h4>\n<p>Some mastocytomas in dogs behave indolently even for years; others are more aggressive and metastasize quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Staging is necessary to assess the invasiveness and spread of the neoplasm and allow the Veterinarian to evaluate the most appropriate therapeutic treatment for the dog.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, it has to be ascertained whether there is widespread metastasis to internal organs (liver, spleen) and whether the tumor has already affected<strong> the lymph nodes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After the cytological examination, if necessary, The Veterinarian will proceed with the histological examination, which consists of taking small portions of liver and spleen tissue.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"La-terapia-e-i-trattamenti-come-curare-un-cane-con-mastocitoma\">Therapy and treatments: how to treat a dog with mastocytoma<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Surgery<\/strong> is the therapy of choice for most mastocytomas that have not metastasized, or have metastasized to the regional lymph node.<\/p>\n<p>The regional lymph node is the lymph node that drains the lymph from that particular body region of the dog.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to removal of the primary tumor, it is also always useful to remove the sentinel lymph node on which histologic examination and staging will be performed.<\/p>\n<p>If surgery is not possible, for example when the nodules are multiple and not completely removable or the neoplasm has already metastasized, <strong>chemotherapy<\/strong> is necessary.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"La-prognosi\">Prognosis<\/h4>\n<p>The prognosis varies greatly depending on the histologic grade of mastocytoma, the status of the sentinel lymph node, and the staging result.<\/p>\n<p>One thing is certain: the timeliness of diagnosis matters.<\/p>\n<p>Any <strong>suspicious neoformation<\/strong> or <strong>new skin lesion<\/strong> that shows a tendency to grow and change shape found on your dog should always be immediately investigated by your Veterinarian.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To refer your dog for a checkup, contact the veterinary doctors on our staff who are always available to you.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We would also like to remind you that <a href=\"https:\/\/clinicalaveterinaria.it\/\">Clinica La Veterinaria<\/a> is always open h24 every day including holidays and with First Aid service from 8 pm to 8 am.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>For the joy of seeing them HAPPY<\/h4>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mastocytoma dog: symptoms, diagnosis, prognosis.
