What cats hate: everything that makes them angry and stressed out

Cats feel annoyance at certain situations or attitudes that humans even unknowingly enact.

Understanding and respecting their preferences is essential to eliminate sources of stress or discomfort and create an environment conducive to their well-being.

Below are some of the things that make cats angry and cause them discomfort and stress.

Loud and unexpected noises stress cats

The cat possesses highly developed hearing, about five times more sensitive than that of humans.

Therefore, loud sounds such as thunder, fireworks, vacuum cleaners or loud music can be extremely stressful.

Loud or unexpected noises can trigger fear reactions, leading the cat to seek refuge in isolated places.

Also, know that the continuous ringing of the bell hooked to the collar is also torture for the kitty’s ears and therefore, avoid it at all costs.

Cats don’t need clothes

There are accessories and clothing available in stores to dress cats however, know that these trappings are completely unnecessary and only satisfy the aesthetic taste of humans.

Mice have a highly developed tactile sensitivity and can feel annoyed by what touches their bodies.

Clothes and costumes restrict kitty’s mobility and cause an unpleasant feeling of constriction.

The cat’s reaction to excessive kissing and caressing

Although many kitties appreciate human contact, excessive handling can make them feel uncomfortable.

If forced into prolonged hugs or caresses, so-called“overstimulation,” cats may react with scratching or biting.

It is important to respect the cat’s signals and recognize when it wants to be left alone.

Cats are creatures of habit and demand hygiene and cleanliness

Any change in the environment, such as a move or even simple changes in furniture, can cause stress.

A cat can also become stressed simply if the location of its bowl, litter box or kennel is moved.

Speaking of the litter box, always remember to keep it clean and sanitized: cats are extremely clean, and if they find their “toilet” dirty, they may react by carrying out their needs around the house.

Regular cleaning is therefore a must.

Strangers in the home and the invasion of space

Sudden or abrupt movements by strangers (especially children) can also trigger escape or defense reactions in the cat.

This happens because cats perceive strangers as noisy and dangerous invaders of their space.

It is important that guests you welcome into your home approach calmly and respectfully, allowing your kitty to acclimate to their presence of people before attempting a close approach.

That is, if the cat is willing to indulge, mind you.

Intense scents are unpalatable to mice

Felines have a very keen sense of smell and are sensitive to intense and persistent scents.

Strong fragrances from detergents, perfumes, environmental sprays or foods may be unpleasant for them.

The most annoying smell for pussycats is citrus; they cannot stand the smell of coffee, herbs such as lavender, pepper and rosemary.

Always use fragrance-free products or those with mild fragrances to respect your cat’s olfactory sensitivity.

Felines’ relationship with water

Most felines despise bathing and any form of cleaning that involveswater.

This attitude stems from the cat that water is not part of their personal cleaning routine.

Forcing a cat into the water for a bath can generate stress and anxiety.

If necessary, use wet wipes or specific products that do not require rinsing and that your trusted veterinarian can refer you to.

Mind you: a chronically stressed cat will sooner or later somatize this stress with some kind of physical or mental disorder.

If you notice any abnormal attitudes or behaviors in your cat, please contact without hesitation the veterinary doctors on our staff who are always at your disposal.
